About: Kila   Category: Dog Stories
I was living by myself in a studio apartment with a nice back yard under a friend's store. I work from home, and always am by myself and rather lonely. I told my landlord I needed a friend, a dog, and she agreed it would be good. I had my heart set on this little puppy that I seen on the local humane society's website. They had a litter of 8 week old black lab/shepherd mix. There was one with pointy ears and looked like a little solid black shepherd, I wanted him. Needless to say I get to the humane society, and this pup was nowhere to be found. I was walking around a bit and I walk up to the cage Kila is in. She rolls over and shows me her belly, begging for a scratching and some needed attention. She was 6 months old and had a warning sign on her cage that she was food aggressive. I knew this would be my new best friend. I did some more walking around and out of the corner of my eye, I see a family take Kila into one of the back rooms and I was crushed. She was gone for a while, I took one of the different 8 week old puppies into a back room and played with him for a while. After going back into the main room, I seen my girl was back in her cage so I immedietly found out what the deal was with her, and found out the people were not interested.. I take her into the back room and she just starts going wild, and I think I now know why the last family put her back, lol. I knew this dog was abandoned because the previous owners did not put the time into keeping a husky mix indoors. They claimed allergies, but no way, this dog was INTENSE and needed some serious exercise. Two days later I got to bring her home, and with a little bit of work, she shaped up in no time. Now at 1.5 years old, I have had her for 1 year and the progress she has made is incredible. It's amazing what exercise can do for a working dog breed. I love her, she is my best friend and one of the best things to happen to me for a while.
