Dexter was found abandoned in a closet during a police raid, and then he went through three different foster homes before finding his permanent home with us.

Since then we've had a number of trials and tribulations with getting him to get in line with some kind of discipline. He's gone through some pretty extensive training and he's now great on the leash, in the house, with kids, other dogs - you name it. His only remaining problem is that he has SEVERE separation anxiety... whi

'Faith' was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002. He was born with 3 legs - 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which needed to be amputated. He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother did not want him.

His first owner also did not think that he could survive. Therefore, he was thinking of 'putting him to sleep'. By this time, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him. She was determined to teach and train this dog t

I adopted Martini (originally Marlee) from the Capital Area Humane Society. When she was surrendered for being a "bad dog", she was thin, with bald patches from collar wear, and scars on her legs from possible older dog correction. And she was only about 3 months old! They were unsure of how tall she actually was because she wouldn't stand to her full height. When you tried to touch her she would cower and pee. She was simply pathetic.

My friend who works at the CAHS told me abou

The top of her head looked like an elephant, that is how the students on her case named her Ellie. But, even looking that awful, her little puppy face was all sweetness. I had to give her a chance. So, I took her home to give her medicine and frequent baths. She has been on her road to recovery since then. However, I

I was living by myself in a studio apartment with a nice back yard under a friend's store. I work from home, and always am by myself and rather lonely. I told my landlord I needed a friend, a dog, and she agreed it would be good. I had my heart set on this little puppy that I seen on the local humane society's website. They had a litter of 8 week old black lab/shepherd mix. There was one with pointy ears and looked like a little solid black shepherd, I wanted him. Needless to say I get to the hu

Everything seemed to be going just right in our little household. Both had jobs we liked, a nice future planned out, and two Jack Russell terriers to keep things interesting around the house. The little female of the pair was especially challenging - cute as a button, but oh so Type A and full of sass. Just seemed like we could never tire her out enough to really enjoy her.

Jack Russell Terriers seem to need "a job" to help channel their energy in positive directions and the
